Hi everyone!

As part of the organization of CP 2023, we have set up a new diversity survey and a new equity & inclusion survey. These surveys are improved versions of those distributed last year based on your feedback as well as feedback from The Unit for Quality and Evaluation at Uppsala University.

Diversity survey (1–2 min): https://sunet.artologik.net/uu/Survey/626
Equity and inclusion survey (5–10 min): https://sunet.artologik.net/uu/Survey/625

Our aims are:

  1. to collect diversity data about our community that will form an initial baseline for further initiatives. It allows us to assess the current state of our conferences and activities regarding diversity.
  2. to understand your experience in the CP research community and gather ideas and opinions on how to improve it.

Your contribution would be very valuable! Please also share these surveys with your (PhD) students. The surveys will be open until July 31, 2023.

Many thanks for your contribution,
Andreína Francisco and Andrea Rendl
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) chair and co-chair of CP-2023

Background. These surveys are led by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) chairs for CP-2023, Andreína Francisco and Andrea Rendl, in collaboration with the Association for Constraint Programming (ACP) and its executive committee. The objective of the survey is to: 1. Get a better understanding of your experience in the CP community 2. Get a better understanding of the diversity of the CP community 3. Gather ideas on how we can improve our community culture regarding diversity, equity and inclusion 4. Hear your opinions on potential initiatives

Why 2 separate surveys? We aim to learn more about the CP community without compromising anybody's identity. We believe that 2 separate surveys will provide the information that we need while also helping us to provide anonymity.

Equity & Inclusion. Equity is ensuring that access, resources and opportunities are given to all to succeed and grow, especially to those who are underrepresented and have historically been disadvantaged. Inclusion is a culture that is welcoming to all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, abilities, etc, and everyone is valued, respected and able to reach their full potential.

Data processing and handling. Your answers will be handled in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), https://www.uu.se/en/about-uu/data-protection-policy. The survey results will be compiled only by Andreína Francisco. The results of the survey will be presented in a report both at the CP-2023 conference and on the ACP website. Results will be presented following anonymization techniques. Any names mentioned in your answers will be removed from the stored data set to preserve anonymity. At least ten responses are required for the results to be presented.

Feedback. If you have feedback about these surveys or the DEI initiative, you can email Andreína at maria.andreina.francisco@it.uu.se or submit it anonymously here: https://doit.medfarm.uu.se/bin/kurt3/kurt/93326
